Our tour groups conduct their activities according to a set of environmental guidelines that minimise any negative impacts. Together we can make a difference.
Mystical Perú expeditions is dedicated to ensuring that our Responsible Travel objectives are practiced and maintained, and also communicated to our passengers whose participation is integral to the successof the policy. Important Information
ACCOMMODATIONS: The Jaguar is an active adventure-oriented trip around Perú. We have chosen interesting, clean and comfortable accommodation throughout. Most of the places we stay are off-the-beaten- track and truly spectacular. We've chosen accommodations for their comfort, cleanliness and charm - not the number of channels available on the televisión! For our Inca Trail treks, we're under canvas, but it's pretty fancy camping all the way. Our
.porters carry tents and supplies, cook meáis, boil drinking water for us and take care of everything around camp. On
^Amantani Island, we will be staying in the homes of local families.
RECOMMENDED FLIGHTS: You need to arrive in Cuzco by lO:am on day one at the latest. If you have extra time before the trip, we recommend heading to Cuzco early for more acclimatization time, and to spend as long as possible in this incredible town! Depending what time your international flight arrives to Lima, you are likely to spend a night there too. Most international flights get to Lima in the evening, so you'll probably fly in to Lima at night and then on to Cuzco the following morning. On the last day of the trip, we recommend booking your flight to depart out of Lima any time after 5pm.
PICK-UP INFORMATION: On the first day of the trip we can either pick you up from Cuzco Airport at lOam, or if you've already flown into Cuzco, we'll meet you in the lobby of PRIMA HOTELat I lam, where you'll meet your trip leader and the rest of your group!
DROP OFF INFORMATION: On the last day of your trip we'll fly you to Lima airport. The trip ends here in Lima - airport. We recommend booking your flight to depart out of Lima after 5pm.
FITNESS: You must have a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy yourself. You don't have to be young or extremely fit (although if you are, you won't be bored), but you should be in the habit of doing at least some regular exercise. Age and experience is not important. We would rather have an older person with a good attitude than a 22-year-old couch potato!

EXPERIENCE: You don't have to have any outdoor experience to do one of our trips. We offer trips that enable you to make the most of South America's awesome outdoor environment, culture and history. Our staff are highly trained and very experienced outdoor leaders, and we'll look after you! You don't have to carry a pack on the multi-day trek (if you like you can hire a porter to carry your overnight gear for a small extra cost), have ever paddled a kayak before or be used to hiking at altitude. You don't need to be a serious cyclist to enjoy our rides either. You don't have to ride at all, if you'd rather hike, shop or laze around! All you need is to be energetic and in reasonable shape - and we guarantee you'll have a wonderful time. But if you like a challenge we will certainly give you one! For example, at Machu Picchu, if you're keen we'll climb up to Huayna Picchu Mountain. We manage the level of commitment to suit your experience, and we have an impeccable safety record.
FLEXIBILITY: Perú is a developing nation and we won't tell you that everything in South America runs like clockwork. What we con tell you is that we are experienced adventure travel leaders, and we know how to keep things operating as smoothly as possible, even when conditions are challenging. That's why we're here! But you'll find your trip even more enjoyable if you remember to bring flexibility and a sense of humor with you.

Well fed and rested we leave Bonanza Lodge, leaving the relatively clean waters of the Madre de Dios River behind; we enter the clay laden waters of the Manu River. With a brief stop at the park ranger station at Limonal to present our permits we travel for about five hours up the Manu. Beaches, especially in the dry season, are loaded with nesting birds and feeding Herons, Egrets, Orinoco Geese, Terns and Skimmers to ñame but a few. Some beaches will host sunning White and Black Caimans (South American relatives of the Alligators)/ and breeding Side-necked Turtles. Hundreds of Sand-colored Nightjars roost during the day on logs and beaches and there is a chance of encountering a sunning Jaguar - the world's third largest cat. In 2006 one in three of our trips saw Jaguar in Manu. We will see some species of primate on this river trip, possibly Red Howler Monkeys or the smaller Squirrel Monkeys. After having lunched by the river we arrive at our Tented Camp near the lake of Cocha Salvador. We'll have the afternoon to explore some of the trails through the pristine rainforest in the área. A visit to the lake of Cocha Otorongo is planned, where

Observation piers and a 20 meter observation tower in the rainforest canopy overlooking the lake are available for observing wildlife. We will also be on the lookout for a large family of Giant Otters that inhabit this lake. Before or añer dinner an optional excursión into the forest at night is available with your guide in search of nocturnal creatures. The lakes are full of eye-shine of the large Black Caimán and if we are lucky we may encounter an Olingo Kinkajou or even an Ocelot on the trails. Certainly the nighttime noise of tree frogs and insects in the forest is an experience not to be forgotten. Night at the Casa Matsiguenka, a rustic native owned lodge run by the Matsiguenka' s themselves, with its own exclusive trail system. There are flush toilet and ambient temperature shower facilities and screened twin rooms, with comfortable beds and mosquito nets. B: L: D

We may encounter an Agami Heron or a Sungrebe and Brown Cappuchin Monkeys are usually feeding on fruits nearby. Specially constructed piers that jut out into the lake enable us to look for a family of Giant Otters that live here. These, the world's largest freshwater carnivores, remain common only in Manu, having been hunted to extinction throughout most of their former range. Each animal consumes between 4 and 5 kilos of fish daily and often they can be seen eating large fish on logs at the lakeside. The rest of the day will be spent walking the trails in the área in search of some of the 13 species of Monkey found in the forest here. Your guide will explain some of the basics of rainforest ecosystems and point out some of the medicinal plants of the área used by local, indigenous groups. We may cross paths with a group of Peccaries - a species of wild boar found here. A late afternoon enjoy the sun sets. Night at the Casa Matsiguenka. B: L: D
DAY 5: Casa Matsiguenka - Cocha Otorongo
Today we'll walk very slowly from camp for 4-5 hours through the forest to Cocha Gtorongo. We may encounter troops of Monkeys. This is a particularly good trail for Woolly and Black Spider Monkeys. We'll pay special attention to the plant Ufe on this walk and take it slowly listening for the rustle of vegetation or the soft sound of fruits falling to the rainforest floor that may betray the presence of animáis or large birds. A visit to the lake of Cocha Otorongo is planned, where observation piers and a 20 meter observation tower in the rainforest canopy overlooking the lake are available for observing wildlife. We will also be on the lookout for a large family of Giant Otters that inhabit this lake. B: L: D

LAKE TITICACA PUNO
An immense region both in terms of its history and the breadth of its magical landscape , the titicaca basin makes most people feel like they are on the top of the world. The skies are vast and the horizons appear to bend away below you. The high altitude ensures that recent arrivals from the coast take it easy for aday or two, though those coming from Cusco will already have acclimatized. The scattered population of the region are descended from two very ancient Andean ethnic groups or tribes – the Aymara and the Quechua. The Aymaras Tiahuanaco culture predates the Quechua´s Inca civilizations by over three hundred years.
Lake Titicaca is enclosed by white peaks and dotted with unusual floating islands, basically huge rafts built out of reeds and home to a dwindling and much- abused Indian population. More spactacular by far are two of the populaed fixed islands, Amantani and Taquile, whose ongoing traditional life gives vissitors a genuine taste of pre- Conquest Andean Perú . Densely populated since well before the arrival of the Incas, the lakeside Titicaca region is also home to the curious and ancient tower tombs known locally as Chullpas, which are rings of tall, cylindrical stone burial chambers, often standing in battlement- like formations.
